I believe in giving time back to my local community and have always been involved in groups and activities from the local toddler group when my son was little to the Scout group as he got older.
My current and recent volunteering includes:
Soirbheas – I’m a director of Soirbheas; a registered charity, whose objectives are to strengthen and support the communities of Glen Urquhart and Strathglass, through revenues from local renewable energy schemes. The money generated by these schemes is reinvested in the community via the charity’s grant programmes, and key projects delivered with partners organisations and local community groups. The funds are used to support local initiatives that help protect our environment, provide training and employment opportunities and projects that create more resilient communities.
Glen Urquhart Highland Games & Gathering – I am a member of the committee and am heavily involved in the lead up to and on the day activities of the Games.
Urquhart & Glenmoriston Parish Church – I have been a Sunday Club leader at the Church since 2011 and took over as team leader last year. With COVID-19 restrictions all our activity has been online and I have had to learn how to create and edit videos. I also assist with the recordings of the weekly services.
Young Enterprise Scotland Highland & Moray – I was a member of the area team for six years who enabled the Company Programme delivery in the Highlands & Moray. The Company Programme runs over the course of a full academic year, where young people from S5 & S6 start up their own student company, running through the key milestones of developing an idea, conducting market research, creating the product or service, promoting that product and ultimately trading it.
Glen Urquhart Primary & High Schools – I was an active member of both parent councils.
7th Inverness (Kirkhill) Scout Group – I was a member of the Group Scout Executive for a number of years until my son left Scouts.
